Grant Provides New Choreography for Spring Concert

With the help of a grant from ArtsEverywhere and our generous patrons, Patchwork will premier a new work by 2009 CNADM Artistic Award recipient, Julie Cartier. Ms. Cartier was in residence with the PDC dancers in January to set her new choreography on the dancers. Her high intensity piece, Heavy Cross, is one of seven premier works to be presented at “In Concert” at two performances. The first performance will be held at the Elkhart Central High School auditorium on Saturday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. and the second will be held at O’Laughlin Auditorium on Sunday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m.

Bringing in a guest artist of Ms. Cartier’s caliber not only provides cutting edge choreography to our community, but also provides growth
opportunities for our dancers and apprentices. Additional choreography to be presented is work by Chicago choreographers Jeremy Plummer, Cheryl Mc Worter and Harrison McEldowny, Oklahoma University professor Lyn Cramer and regional choreographers Jaci Mullins and Jenn Wolfe.

The concerts provide an exciting opportunity for dance students and
families alike to experience high quality live entertainment of outstanding Midwest choreography presented by accomplished regional dancers. A free student ticket is available with the purchase of a full price adult ticket. Tickets are available at Debbie Werbrouck  School of Dance & Music or by calling 574-247-1590.

Update

Patchwork Dance Company has had a variety of events since our last newsletter.  In October we filled the Knights of Columbus hall with 11 tables of people for our 2nd Annual Trivia Night.  We learned lots of useless information and raised $1500 doing it! That event was followed by a Barnes & Noble fundraiser in connection with a Christopher’s Christmas performance at their new mall store.  A new fundraiser was also added to the fall line-up by selling Papa Murphy’s pizzas.  Thank you to all who participated and partnered with PDC in these events.

....5-6-7-8th Annual Dinner Auction a Success!

Thanks to a lot of hard work by many, our 8th Annual Dinner Auction was a night of good food, wonderful entertainment and great bargains!  With a record 105 people in attendance, more than 100 donated items were auctioned off silently and orally, raising almost
$8,000 for Patchwork Dance Company.

From ND football tickets to dog grooming services, photo sessions to restaurant gift cards, dessert of the month to Lia Sophia jewelry, there was something for everyone to bid on.  But the highlight of the night was the colorfully polka dotted mop and cleaning set that caused a bidding war amongst friends and most importantly raised much needed funds for PDC!

Entertainment was provided by PDC II and PDC Apprentices with a sneak preview of two of the dances from their upcoming “In Concert” show.   It was fun to see the dances up close and we look forward to so much more that there is to come at the Concert.

We hope you enjoyed the evening if you were there, and if not, you missed a beautiful night out at Knollwood Country Club.  We invite you to attend next year for the 9th annual edition of the dinner auction.
Thanks to all those who helped plan, price, set-up and attend the event.
